Objective To evaluate the effect of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) in managing thoracolumbal frature in patients whose age were more than 75 years old. Methods From May 2005 to May 2009,thirty patients were treated by PKP.The height of the vertebral body and cobb's angle changes between pre- and post-teartment were measured on a radiograph.Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) was used to assess pain severity pre- and post- treatment. Results Marked or complete pain disappeared in all patients.The height of the vertebral body were restored and the kyphosis were corrected. Conclusion PKP is a safe and effective way to treat vertebral compression fractures in thoracolumbar spine in aged patients. |
