Objective: To explore the clinical value of a three-level linked training model within hospitals in enhancing nurses' ability to identify skin xerosis in elderly patients, with the aim of improving nurses' skills in identifying, preventing, and managing skin xerosis in elderly patients, reducing the incidence of skin xerosis in elderly patients, and enhancing the quality of life for older adults. Methods: The core members of the pressure injury care guidance group first trained 60 pressure injury care coordinators through PPT lectures, micro-videos, and clinical practice training. After the training, the pressure injury care coordinators were assessed using methods such as online questionnaires, written tests, practice and cross-sectional surveys within the hospital. Following the assessment, pressure injury care coordinators conducted training for 684 nurses in the department. After the training, a questionnaire was used to survey the nurses' knowledge of skin xerosis in elderly patients, and relevant nursing skills were conducted among nurses from departments with a high incidence of skin xerosis in elderly patients. Results: The pass rate for the pressure injury care coordinators' online questionnaire assessment was 93%, the pass rate for the written test was 88%, the pass rate for the practical assessment was 85%,and rate of survey accuracy was 94.68%. In the cross-sectional survey, 1 261 elderly patients were effectively investigated. Among them, 508 elderly patients had skin xerosis, resulting in a prevalence rate of 40.28%, pressure injury care coordinators accurately identified 481 elderly patients with skin xerosis with an accuracy of 94.68%. After training, the 684 nurses demonstrated a significantly higher level of knowledge about skin xerosis compared to before the training(P<0.05), the on-site assessment pass rate for nurses from departments with a high incidence of skin xerosis in elderly patients was above 85%. Conclusion: The three-level linked training model within hospitals can effectively improve nurses' abilities to identify, prevent, and manage skin xerosis in elderly patients, demonstrating significant clinical value. |
