Objective:To explore the application value of ultrafast ultrasound imagine pulse wave velocity technology(ufPWV) on quantitative evaluation of age-related carotid atherosclerosis progression.Methods:One hundred healthy subjects were selected and divided into five age groups (21-30 years old, 31-40 years old, 41-50 years old, 51-60 years old and 61-70 years old) with 20 subjects in each group. The ratio of male to female in each age group was 1:1.The ufPWV technique was used to measure the pulse wave velocity of the beginning of the systole(BS) and the end of the systole(ES). The difference value between ES and BS was calculated to obtain the difference of pulse wave velocity(DPWV),and the ratio of DPWV to the difference of pulse pressure(DP) was further analyzed to study the influence of blood pressure on pulse wave velocity(PWV). Results:ES and BS were statistically significant among the all groups(P=0.000,P=0.000,respectively). According to results of correlation analysis, BS and ESwere positively correlated with age (r=0.454,P=0.000; r=0.789, P=0.000;respectively).DPWV and DPWV/DP were statistically significant among the all groups (P=0.000,P=0.000,respectively). The results of correlation analysis showed that DPWV and DPWV/DP were significantly correlated with age (r=0.690, P=0.000; r=0.647, P=0.000,respectively). Conclusion:BS and ES can be used as a effectiveindicator of age-related carotid atherosclerosis progression no matter whether the blood pressure is corrected or not, and ES is superior to BS.
