Objective: To evaluate the association between BDNF Val66Met polymorphism(rs6265) and obsessive compulsive disordor(OCD) susceptibility. Methods: Published work about BDNF Val66Met and OCD from PubMed, EMBASE in English and from CBM, CNKI in Chinese were searched for relevant articles published by the end of August, 2011. The effect size was analysised in RevMan 5.1 and STATA 11.0. Results: A total of 989 OCD patients and 1528 controls from 5 studies were identified. When all groups were pooled, allele contrast(Val:Met and Met/Met:Val/Val and Met/Met:Val/Val+Val/Met) genotype of BDNF Val66Met polymorphism produced significant results, with the OR values were 0.84(95%CI:0.73~0.97,P=0.02) and 1.56(95%CI:1.07~2.27,P=0.02) and 1.48(95%CI:1.04~2.10,P=0.03) respectively. Conclusions: This meta-analysis demonstrates that rs6265 Met allele and Met/Met genotype were associated with a statistically significant increased risk of OCD. Larger additional studies possibly investigating the interaction with other genes and environmental exposures are required to confirm these results. |
